What we teach

Pupils study 14 subjects within the 33 period week:

English
Mathematics
French or Italian
Social Subjects (History, Modern Studies and Geography)
Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
Art
Computing
Home Economics
Physical Education
Religious Education
Music
Technical

This is a continuation of the S1 curriculum and pupils study the same subjects although the period allocation is slightly different. In addition, pupils also have one period of Social Education.

S3 / S4

Towards the end of S2, pupils opt for 8 Standard Grade subjects which they will study for two years.

English and Mathematics are compulsory.
So, too, is a language (French, Italian or possibly Latin).

Pupils must also study

a Social Subject (Geography, History or Modern Studies),
a Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Science) and
ICT (Administration or Computing).
Two other subjects are chosen from the following:
- Art and Design,
  Business Management,
  Craft and Design,
  Graphic Communication,
  Home Economics,
  P.E. Studies,
  Music,
  Social and Vocational Studies.
One of these must be a Creative and Aesthetic subject. In addition, pupils must take
- Religious Education and
  Physical Education.

S5 / S6

Students take into account their Standard Grade results and opt for 5 subjects. As well as the subjects studied at Standard Grade, the following subjects can be chosen: Reid Kerr College Religious Education Physical Education

Classical Studies (S6 only),
Health and Food Technology,
Hospitality,
Media Studies,
Practical Craft Skills,
PSE,
Psychology (S6 only).These may be at Intermediate 1 or 2, Higher or Advanced Higher Grade. Some students may also opt for courses offered at or undertake Distance Learning courses or they may study a subject at another school in Renfrewshire. classes are compulsory, as is in S5.
